Wiki Links

Wiki links are the heart of connected note-taking. They let you create relationships between notes using a simple [[Note Name]] syntax.

Type two opening brackets, the note name, and two closing brackets:

Check out my [[Meeting Notes]] from yesterday.

This creates a clickable link to the note named “Meeting Notes”.

When you type [[, Sidvy shows suggestions:

  1. Type [[
  2. Start typing the note name
  3. Matching notes appear in a dropdown
  4. Press Tab or Enter to select
  5. Or keep typing and close with ]]

You can link to notes that don’t exist yet:

I should write about [[Future Topic]]

The link appears differently (often dimmed or with a different style) to indicate the note doesn’t exist. Clicking it will create the note.

Click any wiki link to open that note. The note opens in the current tab, replacing what you were viewing.

To open in a new tab, hold Cmd/Ctrl while clicking.

One of the most powerful features: Sidvy automatically tracks which notes link to the current note.

Open the right sidebar panel to see:

  • Linked Notes - Notes this note links to
  • Backlinks - Notes that link to this note

Backlinks help you:

  • Discover unexpected connections
  • Find where a topic is mentioned
  • Build a web of related content
  • Never lose context

Wiki links are case-insensitive for matching:

  • [[meeting notes]] links to “Meeting Notes”
  • [[MEETING NOTES]] also links to “Meeting Notes”

The link text must match a note name exactly (ignoring case). Partial matches don’t create links.

Wiki links only work within the same workspace. You cannot link to notes in other workspaces.

When you rename a note, Sidvy does not automatically update wiki links pointing to it. You’ll need to update them manually.

Since links use the exact note name, descriptive names make links more meaningful:

// Less clear
See [[Notes]] for details.
// More clear
See [[Project Alpha Design Decisions]] for details.

Don’t be shy about creating links. The more connections, the more useful your note graph becomes.

When editing a note, glance at its backlinks. You might find:

  • Related context you forgot about
  • Notes that need updating
  • Patterns in your thinking

Some notes work well as “hubs” that link to many related notes:
