Import

Import notes into Sidvy from a zip file containing markdown files.

Sidvy supports importing zip files (.zip) containing markdown files. The zip file can include folders to preserve your organizational structure.

  1. Go to Settings > Import/Export
  2. Click Import
  3. Select a .zip file
  4. Preview the import
  5. Click Import

Your zip file should contain markdown files (.md). Folders within the zip are converted to groups in Sidvy.

Example structure:

my-notes.zip
├── note1.md
├── note2.md
└── Projects/
├── project-a.md
└── project-b.md

This creates:

  • Two notes at root level
  • A “Projects” group with two notes inside

Before importing, you’ll see:

  • File name and resulting note title
  • Content preview
  • Folder structure as groups
  • Any warnings

Review and confirm before proceeding.

Most note-taking apps can export to markdown. Create a zip file from the exported content.

  1. Locate your Obsidian vault folder
  2. Zip the folder contents
  3. Import the zip to Sidvy
  4. Wiki links [[...]] are preserved
  1. Export from Notion as Markdown & CSV
  2. Zip the exported markdown files
  3. Import the zip to Sidvy
  4. Some Notion-specific syntax may need cleanup

After importing:

  1. Review wiki links - Some may need fixing
  2. Check formatting - Some conversions aren’t perfect
  3. Organize - Move notes to appropriate groups
  4. Add tags - Enhance with Sidvy’s tag system

If you see garbled characters:

  • Ensure source files are UTF-8 encoded
  • Re-save source files in UTF-8 before zipping

If formatting is lost:

  • Check that source files use standard markdown
  • Some proprietary syntax may not convert

For very large zip files:

  • Ensure a stable internet connection
  • Check storage limits
  • Allow time for processing
